Re: The August garden report (loooong)

Cathy - website is www.seedsavers.org. Their catalog is stunning.
For varieties that fruit all summer long - even here - try Jimmy
Nardelos, Quadrato Asti Giallos (doesn't that name just SING?) and the
Burans. I get the transplants but you can also get them as seeds.
All sweet and wonderful. Plant some basil and cosmos in their
neighborhood and you'll have more pollinators than you can shake a
stick at. Putting a handful of powdered eggshell in the planting hole
helps to prevent the dreaded blossom end rot. I also top dress them
w/ eggshell and greensand every two months but our growing season is
pretty long compared to what some of you have for warm weather crops.
My peppers do great long after everyone else's have croaked. If
gardenspace is limited, grow the Burans & Nardellos in big pots. I do
that up front. Use plastic or synthetic pots, terra cotta dries out
to fast and they'll fry.
