RE: Greenhouse pollinating question...

Not when I tried it. But they were better than supermarket tomatoes tho much
smaller. I didn't find the yield was worth the effort, so I don't do it
anymore, but it was fun to try. I bet if you had a real fancy setup you'd
get good ones - lights, temperature controls, etc etc. I just had my little
greenhouse with a couple plants in 5 gallon pots.

Cool. Do they taste as good as summer tomatoes?

Just shake the plants once a day or so, tomatoes are self-pollinating and
just need a little agitation to knock the pollen around. You might want to
have some grow-lights if your days are very short in winter. Cherry tomatoes
or a variety like Siberia might be your best bet - expect very thick skins,
and not as juicy as summer tomatoes, but they are fun anyway.

O.K., I've never had a greenhouse and my husband is thinking about getting
me one. I would LOVE to grow tomotoes year-round. Does anybody know how to
pollinate them in the winter time? Do you just use a q-tip and touch each of
the flowers, or is there more to it than that?
