Thanks Kitty, that's a good site. Logee's carries some good ones at times too.

I really like scented geraniums. I was hopeful to find some unusual ones this year. Alas, just the usual rose, rose-mint, and citronella available here.
My favorites so far are "Mabel Gray" orange scent, "Candy Dancer" Tutti fruiti with finely cut leaves, and an unnamed varigated cut leaf with a true peppermint scent. I was unable to overwinter these successfully.
I've found that some "scented" geraniums only vaguely resemble their named scents. The good ones, though, have a strong, true perfume.

Cathy, we carried some scented geraniums this season because of the award. Didn't sell many, but the things are growing like crazy in the pots. Will try again to move them at the August sale, and if still left I'll try selling them as houseplants at our bulb sale in Oct.

Our local herb society members are shaking their heads over the selection of scented geraniums as herb of the year. They aren't particularly attractive, though some do have interesting leaves. My experience with them is limited, but for most I have smelled, linking them to the plant whose scent they resembled was a stretch. What they need to start is the 'best new' varieties IMHO. Of course, the major growers do a huge ad push for what they are featuring this year, give the garden writers a free sample and hope for the best. (Which is good, since many of the GW will tell it like it is about the plant in their garden) If the small mom and pop places don't get that news early enough, they of course, are left out. Folks are looking for 'that' plant, and missing some other great ones they are featuring. Rumor has it - yet another weigela is getting the big ads this coming spring...sigh.
