Sherri has green hands and feet. I checked out the pics of Livistona - the Chinese Fan Palm, and can't believe that's hardy for her - she's more of a 6 and I'm a 5.
Guess what I found in one of my beds. a Canna seedling. And I had no cannas this year, but did last year.

Hi, it sure was! Let's hope for year #2. I planted two more in different
locations just to see what happens.

Everyone laughed when I tried it but they weren't laughing this spring when
they saw it alive and well.

I also planted quite a few bananas and hedychium too. They will stay in the
ground this winter.

The only problem I found was that I had to manually cut it back last winter
as the frost (and snow) was not killing the leaves! The crown does need
protection from the wet.
