Hi all-spent the last week in San Diego. My first trip to California. I loved
the weather. My first day there I went to the zoo and confess I was much more
enamored of the plant life than the animal, although that was interesting too.
Spent a lot of time eating and shopping and walking around downtown. This was
a work trip most of which was spent at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot. Jim,
they had a blooming Hong Kong orchid tree in the Drill Instructors court yard.
Loved it. That was the first time I've gotten to see one actually blooming in
real life. Loved all the palms and the Jacaranda (I think) trees were blooming
too. I'd love to try one of those here but I'm afraid it wouldn't survive the
winter. But, I'm glad to be home. I have to admit that although their weather
was MUCH nicer, the plant life wasn't nearly as lush as I thought it would be.
I guess because it's so much more rainy here? Everything at home looks like
it's grown a foot in the week I was gone.
