We had rain all early morning then on and off all day and raining again now. During a clear period i dug ourt a bed of tawny daylilies to give to a coworker. Oh wow - was it ever humid! Sweatcity! Started raining again, so I took a drive and delivered them. The rain was welcome. Hope the plants can store up some of the water as it will be in 90s all week.
30% chance of rain over the next several days. Kitty neIN, Zone 5----- Original Message ----- From: "Donna" <gossiper@sbcglobal.net>

It is supposed tobe in the 90's next week, but we are also supposed to get rain daily... we will see. I got brown desert, dirt, and the barest hint ofa cloudwayway off to the south. It is a pleasant 99F with 11% humidity and nowind. On the plus side, yesterday we did have clouds, and at least 10raindrops hit ourwindshield on the way into work. Woo-hoo, moisture! Lastnight we blew offteam penning practice (husband is showing signs ofstrain after weeks ofrushing from work to home to horse event threenights a week) and I startedgetting the onions out of the garden. Shouldhave grabbed the red onesearlier, many of them are not in the best shape. The yellow ones - Candy - arelooking good, I'll see if I can't get allthose inside this weekend. Some ofthem were under stress though, theyhave those bizarre extra growths. I haveplenty of tomatoes to play withtoo, I'll make chili sauce and canned tomatoessince I entered those in thefair. I'm running a bit late ongetting my entries done but it's par forthe course this year. I doubt I willhave available half of what Iplanned to enter in the gardencompetition, oh well. I might be ableto substitute some tomatoes for the pepperentries. And NOAAsays we've got alot of the same through next Monday PM. Not easy to tourthe plantationbetween cloudbursts, but I did notice quite a few babystarfruit thismorning--and I didn't even know the tree had bloomed.Pleasant surprise. Unpleasantrealization: we're almost out of mangos, onemore picking, two at most. The orange jasmines--including the one Inearly killed with thewheelbarrow full of softener salt--are in theirthird or fourth bloomcycle. And when the flush of small, multi-petaledwhite flowers isassaulted by driving rain, it looks like it snowed in thefront patio. But snow never smelled this good. The Barbados cherry isin its third bloom cycle, too. It's a mass ofpink and white flowers. Thefirst two cycles produced heavy crops offruit, but I don't know if thisone will--the rain may keep the wasps, bumblebees, and other pollinatorsat home. Usually when it blooms, thewasps and bumbles get possessive andlet you know you're not welcome inthe neighborhood until they've hadtheir fill. I've had bumblebees, which show no interest in me when they'reworking on avocado flowers,dive-bomb me when I go near the Barbadoscherry when it's in bloom.Island Jim Southwest Florida 27.1 N, 82.4 W Hardiness Zone 10 Heat Zone 10 Sunset Zone 25 Minimum 30 F [-1 C]Maximum 100F [38 C]---------------------------------------------------------------------Tosign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the messagetextUNSUBSCRIBE GARDENCHAT---------------------------------------------------------------------Tosign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with themessage textUNSUBSCRIBE GARDENCHAT---------------------------------------------------------------------Tosign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with themessage textUNSUBSCRIBE GARDENCHAT --------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE GARDENCHAT --------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE GARDENCHAT
