I've had one in a pot very large for many years and has been fine- until last winter. Froze back severely and thought I was going to lose it entirely. It is gradually making a comeback- but will never be as gorgeous as it once was. And I had the pot up next to the house, so it was fairly protected. I think you are more temperate that we are, so you might get away with it there. Worth a try anyway.

Dave, Large ones grow in Berkeley just fine; hit by hard freezes but often come back OK. What is the USDA zone for them? I have seen several things so thought I should ask.
