Not so many butterflies this year. Some admirals, a few black swallowtails (but no larvae on the dill I always plant for them). Occasional Monarchs. While there were few hummingbirds at the beginning of the season, I have seen many more at my feeders in the past few weeks.

Everything seems behind schedule here. My goldfinch and hummimgbirds were slow to show up, flowers late in blooming. I have seen a few butterflies just lately...but the bronze fennel I grow for the swallowtails is fading because of the heat. Normally it has been eaten down by the caterpillars by now.

So far it’s just one Monarch and one Yellow Swallowtail.
Last year I had only a couple of Monarchs but 8 Yellow Swallowtails. I have an area that’s about 10x12 of Korean Hyssop with a sprinkling of Ox Eye and Catnip. The butterflies and the bees seemed to adore it last year so now I’ve let it get thicker than ever. I hope they come; the bees have already been busy all over it. The lone Monarch seems to go for the Verbena bonariensis.
Any butterflies in your area?
