On a Mac, the keyboard command is [option] [shift] [8]. There is a small
system utility called keyfinder that shows the keystroke commands for all
special characters and diacriticals. I always found it so much easier to use
than any of the PC utilities, to say nothing of remembering all of the ascii
equivalents.
