that's pretty much the way i read it and feel about it, too, libby. i still belong to ahs, but i don't expect to participate in it much because, as near as i can tell, it's asleep--a non-participatory list, if you will. and that's fine. i think that's what the society wants [because it can't possibly be a problem to anyone there] and what all the lurking whiners want, although i don't quite know why. from the looks of it, they could cut the message limit back to 10 and not worry about the list crashing.
i think we need to keep our eyes open for friends who may have been off the ahs list for some reason during the exodus and let them know that this list also exists.

Not quite the whole truth (the no relationship to AHS, I mean). But, the relationship is one of parenthood, if you will, in that our community had grown beyond the vision of AHS, and when a new home opened up the community spun off and changed residences to hort.net. So, coincidentally (wink), we started off this list with pretty much the core crew from the previous list, plus some new voices (whether previous lurkers or truly new), and we are moving onward. So Kitty is right in that once we got past the initial dissemination of information about this new list, there is no further relationship to AHS. The AHS list is not quite silent, but honestly I think it'll take some new posters with questions to get much activity going there. Since our conversation here has no message limit and no forbidden OT subject lines (barring common decency and don't pick that up as a thread, either!!!), topics can go where we take them. Remembering our common thread is gardening. I'm not inclined to cross-post my gardening questions to 2 lists so I'll most likely post my gardening questions to my friends here, but I am still subscribed to AHS and I will participate as I can.
