yeah, it's a beauty. they're all beauties; treasures that you find only by looking.

if i miss anything living in florida, it's not the "seasons." it's the incredible and hostile beauty of the desert. i spent much of my childhood romping through the mojave desert and adjoining panamint and death valleys. i feel very much at home there.

[michaengelo antonioni made a terrific movie with a death valley locale--"zabriski point"--better than "blowup" but not quite as good as nicholson in "the passenger." but then, nothing is quite as good as nicholson in anything.]

the last time i went back to death valley--1994, i think--it was such a joy. the short one and i spent a week at furnace creek, soaking the ills and aches from our bodies.
