i think everyone has become so paranoid about allowing just anyone into school buildings these days that church activities buildings have become default polling places. and, since this is florida, there are far more churches than there are schools, anyway--almost more than there are houses.

Ohio uses churches, too, but not just churches. If I remember right,
Indiana uses other facilities in addition to churches, too. There are local
schools and community centers put to use as well. It was my belief that the
churches were used for the same reason other public and government places
were used...they are gathering places that don't cost the government any
additional monies to maintain or rent. No services are held during the
polling that takes place, so religion and government don't really mix.

Kitty, is this an Indiana practice only? I have not heard of churches being
used as such in our area.
