Second that...I've been a school librarian...had aquariums, snakes,
hamsters, chess, etc....in the library with set areas for individual quiet
space and other areas for quiet group work...with major goals to get kids
to use information...this was before computers. We had paperbacks as give
aways so kids could have their own books. One of my biggest problems was
getting kids to return hot items, in any condition....these were usually
books on cars, etc. Also, in a later life was a law librarian...major
goals were to find what was needed as quickly and as inexpensively as
possible. Law librarians frequently must obtain non-legal info to support
a legal case.
Now, public libraries are beginning to add "coffee shops" where you can sit
and read or work with your laptop.
