I think I'll try one. Maybe that will be my christmas present this year. I read somewhere that the rind of the fruit is also used in Thai cooking but not specifically how or when. The fruit sure is funny looking--like ugli fruit only smaller.

You should definitely get one of these trees- I bought mine from Capital
nursery last year, specifically for cooking. Mine was a 5 gallon pot from
Four Winds growers- about 2 ft tall, it has grown oodles of new leaves, even
with me snipping a bit off every now and then. The tree likes lots of sun
and seems to thrive in our heat. It is actually an interesting and
attractive little tree. The leaves are very emerald green and an interesting
shape- sort of lobed in the middle. Mine hasn't bloomed yet, but that's ok
since I only want the leaves. Oh- it does have thorns, but they don't
bother me. Mine is growing, but slowly- I bet in your zone it would grow
all year, where as mine basically stops for a few months in winter.

to get one. Did you know that there is Kaffir [preferred spelling
apparently] lime-flavored vodka? Which would be an improvement over the
normal potato-flavored kind. I think.

I have mine growing in a large pot- seems pretty happy there.  Had it
in the
ground for a while, but wasn't getting the sun exposure it wanted.
Also, in
the pot I can bring it up on the back porch during winter, as it is
supposed
to be very cold sensitive.
