Yeah, I know, there are plenty of us who escape to warmer climates for
some years...but I know plenty of transplants who eventually choose to
return home to the midwest...I tried Florida for a year and had to come
home when I couldn't take the sameness of the seasons any
longer...actually found out I missed the snow for heaven's sake!! 80
degrees on Christmas day, sitting in a hot tub...it just ain't right, I
tell ya!!! Even in years when we don't have a white Christmas, we at
least console ourselves with the thought that we'll "probably get
pounded in January and February!" Masochistic? Probably...takes a small
degree of willingness to suffer to live in the midwest...cold, sometimes
brutal winters, hot/humid summers...but many rewards, too, come with the
territory! Say, got a card from Mardi today and she was headed to Tampa
today...to see the Hawks play! Hope she has time to come round to see
you, Jim...

Probably also why Long Beach, California, has an annual Iowa Day
<br>Picnic, Melody. Brings together all the immigrants so they can
