Kitty,
Will your grass go dormant or stay green?
I saw some Vitex in the Austin Texas area that were huge. That is when I realized I need to move the 2 that I have. I planted one and the next spring I didn't think it made it through the winter so instead of pulling the dead one out I planted another right beside it.
They both lived.
I think I have lost more plants, not from winter kill, but from me giving up in the spring before they came back.
I can't give any advice on it yet other than I know they like good drainage and are very drought tolerant.
I love the way they look like a huge bush of salvia when they are in bloom.

I just gave my lawn its last mowing on Sunday. Being a cool-season grass (mostly various KY bluegrasses) with all the rain we've been having, it is a stunning kelly green right now.
Tricia, you mentioned Vitex. Our MGs just bought 32 cuttings last summer. Usually listed as Zone 6, the wholesaler said Zone 5 so we took a chance. We saw a mature specimen at a Michigan arboretum the same day so we all wanted to try it. Any suggestions on growing it?

Kitty,
Just common Bermuda..... terrible to keep out of the flowerbeds.
We just mowed it a little shorter to clean up the leaves and get as many
clippings for my newest new bed. I scalped off a new area and plan to move
some shrubs from around the property then put down newspapers and grass
clippings on top.
I have a vitex shrub and a mock orange that don't get enough sun or are too
crowded to grow to maturity that I plan to move out to the newest bed.
Should keep me busy this winter.
