We have tried real trees in the past. Trip to the tree farm, cut down our
own, re-sliced the bottom when we got home... made sure it always had water,
also tried the plain, with aspirin, with sugar.. same result. A week later
it was dried out and dropping needles everywhere.

We now use only fake trees.

Donna,
We have done this every Christmas and never had a fire. First with my
family
in Germany and now in the States with my family.
We make sure the tree is fresh. It sits outside in water until the 22.
when
we bring it in. We give it a day for the branches to settle (fraser fir)
and I
decorate it on the 23. Needless to say it sits in water in the tree stand.
