You have to sync your computer with the norton server Auralie... 
   
If you are on version 2006, open norton, click the help link on the
right top.... then the 'subscription option... then the middle option- I
have renewed already or something like that not the one that says put
your new key number in....

   
The 2007 version isn't compatable with certain firewalls- or so it
prompts you. I had to uninstall zone alarm, install norton, install zone
alarm again .. sigh... always something!
