Hmmm. I don't know the species of what I have. I got it from Yucca Do,
and they list it simply as Opuntia "Old Mexico", says zone 8a to 10. In
a normal year, if the zone info is correct, it should manage. Last year
was way cold though. I wanted spineless because husband gripes a lot if
he has to work anywhere near prickly things. We have a little native
prickly pear in the hills around here, very pretty pink flowers, but
it's got serious weaponry or I'd bring home a pad or two.

Depends on the species of Opuntia. O. humifusa is native to the
entire eastern half of the US. Mine grows quite happily in Illinois,
despite winter moisture and freezing. O. macrorhiza and O. fragilis
are also quite cold tolerant.
