Can anyone tell me why I can no longer find plain old yellow grapefruit? Grapefruit and avocado salad is a standard around our house at this time of year - an essential for Thanksgiving and Christmas. When I was a child in Florida in the ' 30s, pink grapefruit were a novelty, but we decided they didn't really taste as good as the regular kind. One semester when I was in college, I financed a summer trip by not paying the dining-hall fee, and I subsisted that semester on a diet of grapefruit and potato chips. Yes, I survived that and didn't really gain any weight. Anyhow, I have always been fond of old-fashioned yellow grapefruit, not the pink ones. Nowadays, the only thing I can find in the stores are the pink ones. I still don't think they taste as good as the old ones. Do they not grow the old ones any more? I guess they cut down all the grapefruit trees to put up condos for old people.
