good question. i don't know the answer to that. i've always bought them as pups. and i don't have experience with that many varieties. but from pup to flower [and fruit and death], the dwarf cavendish took the better part of 3 years; the dwarf cuban red took 4+ years. i would think they probably grow from seed to pup size in a year or two. they grow fairly fast--3 feet to 6 feet in a season.
there's a guy named oscar who runs a nursery called something like "fruit lovers nursery" out of hawaii who could probably answer your question. i've purchased a couple of things from oscar; he's an honest person.
