David, though I've never lived in the arid West, I spent some time in
Colorado with my in-laws. I didn't notice a dearth of critters there, but
there were different KINDs of wildlife. (I don't usually see buffalo
roaming through the yard or antelope, etc.) We DO get a major influx of
birds, have all sorts of small critters from mice up to fox, deer, etc.
Maybe it's just that with our very cold winters and storms, we spend so much
time inside away from wildlife, we notice it more in spring when we CAN get
outside and enjoy.
I don't know if that helps, but I LOVE the sounds of spring as much as I
love its burst of greens.
Blessings,
Bonnie

Hey, I'm curious for those of you who are from the green east but have
spent time here in the arid west. I was just talking with a fella who
has lived here for the last four years and he says that one of the
biggest things he's had to adapt to has been the lack of critters
specifically birds in Ca. versus Chicago where he hails. He says that
in the spring, summer and fall there are many, many more birds and just
plain wildlife there than there is here. Can anybody enlighten me?
I've never lived anywhere else so I don't have anything to compare it
to.
