Yes, they surely will.  They did that to my new baby crabapple tree.  They 
also ate the top of a Gingko, which surprised me.  We have had ample rainfall 
and there is lots for them to eat.  I counted six big ones grazing outside my 
bedroom window last night.  Wish they would learn to eat that awful ground 
ivy!
