Re: ..now hydrangeas

Kitty and Kathy, I have had quercifolia 'Snow Queen' in my garden for 3yrs
and it has done fine. I have it planted on the east side of the house and
near the foundation to provide max protection. I selected it mostly because
the foliage turns a wonderful dark red in the fall.
I would much prefer the macrophyllas but they will not bloom in my climate.
I do have a varigated one which I like for the foliage and maybe 1 out of 4-5
yrs I will get a few blooms. This dies back to the soil in the winter so I
lose the bloom buds.
I am looking forward to Baileys new macrophylla which blooms on new & old
wood but will not be released til 2004. I saw it at the Iowa Nursery &
Landscape Assoc convention last month. It has huge blooms.
    Ceres, Iowa zone 4/5
