Ceres: Just as an aside, I heard a report on national news program
yesterday a.m. that cheerleading injuries, especially head/neck/back
injuries, are now the leading no. 1 sports injuries among female
athletes, especially at the college level...mostly due to the fact that
the sport is always on the look for the next extreme thing to "wow" the
crowds...I guess many schools have gone to banning in the air maneuvers
that could result in serious injuries...and that there is a movement
afoot to make sure that all girls involved in this sport are coached by
accredited coaches, not just volunteers. Amazing how what was once
considered merely as a sideline form of entertainment to men's sports
has now become a recognized sport of its own for women...hopefully that
means more awareness for the need for safety to be a primary force in
the development of the sport.

This is a
sport that is ill attended, no chearleaders but one that
requires much hard work
and gruesome practices. My son was a
competitive swimmer with 6 am winter time
swims. This is another

attend a small school which does not offer this opportunity.
