Actually have tons of pollinators (I almost never spray insecticide). Guess I should have been clearer - its just that the sweet peppers are slow to form, then take forever to mature, while my hot peppers just keep coming and coming.

Cathy - do you have lots of bees and other pollinators flitting around your yard? If not, that could be your problem. Plant some basil and cosmos around your bell peppers. Both draw pollinating insects and the strong scent of the basil keeps that bad bugs that want to eat your peppers away (they can't smell them to find them).

I fell in love with 'Bolivian Rainbow Peppers' when I saw them in
Cantigny gardens outside Chicago. They were so ornamental - with the
edible bonus! Got seeds, after a great deal of surfing from 'Pepper
Joe's' in Timonium, MD. Then had to order the 'Fluorescent Purple
Pepper' as well. Have always had excellent results from hot peppers
here in z5b, but poor yields from sweet peppers, even when started from
plants. Any ideas?

Only peppers I grow these days are Thai devils, bird peppers, and grove peppers. They're perennials here. The Thai devil is the oldest, maybe 5 years old and 6 feet tall. It produces 50 or more peppers a year--way more than I can use.

Pam, don't you have garden centers near that you can purchase plants from avoiding shipping. Also, peppers are very easy to start from seed which I will do but I will not start them till March. I only order plant material that is not available locally due to the cost. Ceres
