Cathy, the RHS "Manual of Orchids" says Ludisiae and Anoectochilus are "allies," whatever that means. Their descriptions make them sound very similar. I'll have a picture as soon as a few of the flowers are open [currently it has no open flowers, but three or four swollen buds look ready to pop].

The plants I know as "jewel orchids" are the Ludisiae - they have to be related to yours, as the flowers you describe seem similar. Any insights?

The short one just pointed out that one of our ground orchids [Anoectochilus species], AKA jewel orchid, is sending up bloom spikes. It's in the front patio but back under the eaves of the house, somewhat protected from both summer sun and winter chill. I really like this orchid; it has dark reddish-purple leaves and tiny white flowers.
Weather her today is cool [in the 50s] and windy; forecast is for rain.
