Isn't the AHS map heat zones (ie based on number of days at a maximum temp), and the USDA map cold zones (ie the lowest temperatures recorded)?

Same here, Sheri. But did you know the USDA rejected AHS' new zone map? So we are still zone 5. Perhaps I shouldn't say rejected; they did not accept it and they are back to the drawing board. I believe they needed more extensive data. -- Kitty neIN, Zone5 -------------- Original message --------------Kitty,
Hi, with the change I am zone 6 but I was a 5 and I still consider myself a
5.

Kitty,
Hi, not where she lives. There is a huge field behind her house and she
hasno trees in her yard. She does have a raised bed. I am going to try some
here this year and see what happens.

Thanks! Did you know Zingiber mioga was hardy here? My boyfriend's mom
hasgrown it in her yard here in Marion for many years now. She brought it
backfrom Japan. I was quite shocked when she said it kept coming back every
year! She does not protect it at all.
