February 2000 of "The American Gardener" features an article on hardy

Donna,
Curcumas have a natural dormant period - lift and store dry or just barely
damp over winter, about 55 F. Some Curcumas are easily rotted if damp
during dormancy. If you want something to bring in as a house plant get
an
evergreen ginger - Hedychium, Alpinia, most Costus, and some Zingibers.

But Cathy-- what I am asking is -can you overwinter them in a house
setting?-- I liked the foliage and would be great as a backdrop in a
container type setting. Just don't want to pay that type price for a one
season item.

Donna

I second that! Have tried some and have never gotten them to bloom for
me, even with the most diligent overwintering.

Specifically, Curcuma rubescens, anyone know anything about it?

Guessing I should have paid closer attention when gingers where
being
discussed here, now I found one that is of interest for foliage....
I
would
never get any of them to flower here....
