Short note on High Voltage, David. We've had some chilly nights--high 30s with breeze--and I don't cover stuff up; if it lives, fine, if it doesn't, it doesn't.
Anyway, it had two big blooms when the chill hit. The blooms held on for a day or two, then dropped [somewhat prematurely]. But the plant quickly formed a half dozen new buds that are playing out now. Beginning to think these have the same cold tolerance as the more ordinary varieties of H. rosa-sinensis, like the double red tree [which I want to get rid of] by my back door.

Hi Melody
Well I guess DF will do!
Hibs are actually completely edible. They make tea with the flowers and in Mexico they make a drink from the leaves. So no worries with pets and or kids. As far as houseplants they do just fine. On one of the Hibiscus groups we just heard from a women in Ontario Canada who has had her's for 20 years. It's outside in the summer and inside next to a window in winter. She said she gets occassional flowers even in winter. I think Auralie said she's had a Hib for over 20 years as well didn't you Aurailie?
Ok, this group is humbling and I'm back to plain ol' DF. It is amazing how much like family this group is. You can leave for awhile but you are always welcome when you come back.
