I don't pretend to be knowledgable on the subject of cookies (except
perhaps chocolate chip) but I don't think they are generally all that
bad. It's my understanding that cookies are sort of like crumbs leaving
a trail back to where you were but in a different way than your History
or Temporary Internet Files do.


Frequently you will find a website saying that you have to have cookies
enabled to utilize the tools on their site. They use them like a
placeholder or a little crumb of memory. I remember needing them to be
able to use my bank online. Of course, most cookies seem to be nothing
more than innocuous little .gifs and such, but I guess there is the
occasional intrusive type.


Hopefully someone who really knows their stuff will chime in, but so far I can say that I don't think I've had a problem with them.
