Chris, I haven't had as much time as I'd like to look through the catalog. the photos of course are striking. I like the layout and the personal comments. If you could bear a teensy critique...I'm reading about Winecups - lovely, I want some! - and you write, "As I mentioned earlier, I love to let this meander..."
People usually jump around catalogs, especially online. They don't read them front to back (My sister reads everything back to front!) It's nice to make connections between entries, but that's too vague. Now I'm wondering what it was you were talking about "earlier" and should I get it with my Winecups, and darn! what page is he talking about?
The icons are great, very descriptive. I like the fact, too, that you include the plants' native range. The light, moisture, and drainage indications might take a little getting used to, but they are much more descriptive than a simple sun or waterdrop icon. It shows you've put a lot of work into these entries and that you are willing to share a lot of in-depth information with your customers.
Another note on pictures. Would it be possible to have 2 pictures for some entries? I'm thinking of the Cimicifuga/Actaea entries. A close-up of flowers or berries is intriguing, but for something like this, a photo of its habit would help.
Still not enough time right now to look at everything, but I've put it in my favorites so I can look some more and watch its progress. Also, when our display Garden groups get done planning their wish lists I can check back to place an order - and maybe some winecups for me!

Well, it sounds as though we are really going to get some winter weatherThe storm can't seem to decide if it wants to hit us or not. We keep getting
this evening! High winds and a full moon should make things interesting
here on the water! I've got enough cat food for a few days, so I don't need
to go shopping! We humans can always eat p & j! I actually have to go
outside and try to relocate what's left of the pallets of stone that were
delivered this summer. If not, some unsuspecting snow plow driver might be a
bit mifted when he hits a load of river rocks buried in the snow tomorrow!
large, lazy flakes for a while and then suddenly it's clear and calm again.
At any rate, I bought groceries, some cables that I needed, and most
importantly, the pieces that I needed for the toilet that broke upstairs.
So if the storm lasts too long I'll at least have a place to sit. :)
I finally glanced at Chris' catalogue. There are a lot of plants listed! I'mThanks! I was starting to wonder if it was so bad that nobody wanted to
looking forward to reading your descriptions of some of the things offered.
Will you have all of these available? The pages look well organized and
uncluttered. Looks like you are off to a good start!
say anything. :)
I do plan to carry everything, although a lot of it can't be shipped until
after April 20th. Some of it needs a little more growing on time and stuff.
I've been plugging away, at it, but I keep finding new plants to add. It's
making things difficult! Last week's episode with my computer, boiler, phone
lines, toilet, and other stuff slowed things down, but hopefully I'll start
to catch up again this weekend.
I *am* interested in any comments that you have about the catalog layout.
What things didn't make sense? What kinds of plants grabbed you the most?
The least?
I do have a new appreciation for nurseries, though. I'm amazed that they
can stay in business with all of the hidden costs.
Chris
