" sitting around waiting for something to happen" had to do with
fishing. It's the same way I felt about fishing 50 years ago. The
corollary, " Maybe the same might be true for gardening.", wasn't a
strict corallary, but was explained as "Too much competition for their
time." 45 years ago, had I been asked to go fishing, I'd have said no, I
had better things to spend my time on. But I do believe if someone had
offered to show me how to start seeds then, I'd have been interested; it
would have seemed a more active pursuit than waiting for a bite.
