well, I'm happy to report that I didn't freak out or scream or yell at Caroline for yakking on the carpet. LOL! I do understand that a child needs comforting at such times and I think I did a pretty good job. Fortunately, my mother was very good with us when we were sick and I hope I picked some of that up. I've also cleaned up and comforted many a drunk friend so I'm sure those skills came in handy. As for children, I'm sure it's totally different when it's your own. I just don't think I'm cut out for motherhood.

Yes, comforting children is very important. It's odd that when one looks
back at those times, it isn't any one great moment that give you the warm
fuzzies, it is the everyday and mundane things that give you comfort. Just
last year my older daughter (then 29--really) had a stomach virus. When she
was little she had tummy troubles frequently and I would rub her tummy to
comfort her and make her feel better. Well, even last year she asked me to
rub her tummy! Now that was a sight!!! LOL!!! It did make me feel good to
think that momma still had a little "magic" left to sooth away a hurt,
though.

Now I get to do the same for the grandboy and that warms my heart, too. I
have to walk a tight line when comforting him regarding something I may not
agree with his mother about; but I must support her while helping him vent
and understand his mother's viewpoint. On the other hand, I get to enjoy
Sci-Fi movies with him because him mom hates them and Bill and I love them!
His mom just shakes her head and rolls her eyes when we start talking
Science Fiction. LOL!!!

Your reaction is perfectly normal.  If you WERE to become a parent,
mother nature would kick in to help you get past the "fun" part of
parenting.

I dunno... I was laying in bed thinking about this last night.

To me part of the joy of parenting (although I am childless myself, through
no fault of my own) is comforting a child after something like that.
If someone thinks they're uncomfortable, imagine how the poor child feels.
Comforting them and cleaning them up is mundane, but it helps forge a bond
of love that makes it all worthwhile.

But, like I said, I don't have any children. I almost married into one, but
his Mom ended up being psycho and the whole thing fell through.

Now I plan to reproduce asexually. I figure if I eat enough I'll eventually
divide, right? Although the only thing splitting seems to be my pants...
