Re: garden show

You are not kidding there. The Home Depot near me has put all their tropical plants outside because it was in the 60s one day. (I think they are all dead now.) My girlfriend, who is the area manager for another huge Tennessee nursery said the HDs in the Memphis region wanted three semis (trucks, that is) full of spring annuals delivered this weekend. It's February, for pity's sake. DUH. There are, however, some people who will buy and plant these flowers; then they will want their money back because all the plants died.

I love attending garden shows this time of the year and 'smelling' green.
They start next weekend around here for the next month or so....

BUT.... I
got an ad for a sort of chain store this week.... they have their PLANTS on 
sale.... geraniums, stella de'oro, flowering clematis, boxwoods, spirea,
lilac, cypress, purple fountain grass..... DUH!... this is zone 5, everything 
is frozen and we are having a major winter storm this weekend.... they are
REALLY rushing the season this year.....I am looking at holding some of these plants for close to three months before they could be put in the ground here 
based on our last frost date..... geesh.

I've received
many ads in the mail for the Vita Mix over the years but as I
recall, it's a
pricey mixer.  Does look nice though.
Our H&G show starts Thursday.  I've got
about 100 bulbs to package this
wekend for it, fortunately made the
label/fact sheets in advance.  There are
far fewer hort speakers this year,
but I hope to get most of my MG ed hours
in on Saturday.  MGs get into the
show free but there's still parking to pay
for.

I also have to coordinate
and write orders for about 10 of our display
gardens this weekend.  Once
again, several did not bother to hand theirs in
by the deadline, though they
had 6 weeks to figure out what they wanted.
When we all met in January, I
gave a presentation on some of the plants we
are offering in the MG nursery
next year and I was surprised that they put
many of those plants on their
wish lists.  That will make my ordering easier
since the nursery plants were
ordered last September.

and I went tonight to the Home and Garden show in OKC.  I told

them of our

Horticulture Society membership which they didn't take but

offered us a

senior citizen price, $5.00.  I must need to touch up our

hair
color.

:-)

We enjoyed it even though it was more home stuff than garden stuff...


still

fun in February to see some garden landscapes.  Some really nice


waterfalls

and creeks... loved the see through Plexiglas that you can walk

across the

running water.
Paul James is to speak tomorrow...
We just

bought a  Vita-Mix  that they were showing all these great

recipes.
She

made a tortilla soup with just hot water, fresh vegetables.  That sold

me

alone but then she made raspberry sorbet, peanut butter, fresh fruit



smoothie, vegetable drink, chocolate/ Carmel banana ice cream, banana ice



cream, and fresh salsa.  We were going to eat before we went home but this



was more than enough to take care of us.  I can't wait to use it at our



Master Gardener meeting in March.  We have a speaker that is going to talk



on Organic gardening and I am in charge of refreshments.  I plan to make



the tortilla

soup and one of the ice creams.  Does anyone have any recipes

ideas to

share
or any experience with a Vita Mix?
