Kitty,
I love the idea of a class on "You say
Tomato, I say Lycopersicon
Simplifying, Understanding, and Pronouncing
Botanical Names."

Since we do
not have MG general meetings, that wouldn't work for us.
However, our
individual garden groups do meet. This means that our
Nursery group meets
periodically. When we got together in late January to
plan the year, I
brought this very item (Dan's idea) up, but once again I
ended up as the
Little Red Hen. Sure, yeah, sounds great if someone else
does the
presenting.
I just got our newsletter and we are hosting a MG conference
on April 14.
It runs 9:30 to 3 and has 3 speakers. The first one is on
herbs. The
woman is a miniature bulldozer and I would just fume if I had
to listen to
her so I'll skip it. The next is pruning practices which I
could use and
the 3rd one I am looking forward to: "You say Tomato, I say
Lycopersicon -
Simplifying, Understanding, and Pronouncing Botanical
Names." I will
probably work at something at the conference, but the 2
lectures, together
w the ones I get at H&G show, should round out the 6 ed
hours I need.

Sorry I am late (as usual) to chime in on
this subject. Training was
always
an issue so our group started a new
program. At least once a month
speakers
who are usually MGs give an
hour presentation approved by the Hort Ed for
training. This month we had a
one hour Sunday afternoon presentation on
"Creating a Backyard Habitat" by
our resident bird expert MG. It covered
plants, water sources and wildlife.
Twenty five MGs attended. In March, I
will be doing a presentation on Use,
Care and Sharpening of Garden Tools.
Other topics I remember have been Rose
Care and Identification, Shade
Gardening, Water Gardening, Pest and Disease
Control and Identification,
and
Lawn Care. Some are afternoons and
weekends but most are evenings.

There are a few things authorized
online, but they fall in the arm&leg
category.
