Re: Chicago

Maria Montessori believed--in spite of a lot of silliness like the pink tower--in teaching children the underlying principles of science, not the rote mechanics involved in calculations and such. There must be a million manuals, including the Euclid's logarithmic tables, that will tell any person able to read how to find a number's square root.

My daughter attended a Montessori school and learned how to do that in her

In the age of solar-powered calculators, they still teach long
division? I nearly fell off my chair when Ms Fatma told me she needed
to be able to find a number's square root--and her test was for primary
grades [K-3].

Will do Jesse and thanks. We're just really looking forward to seeing
him again. He's a good kid.

Next he goes to S.C. for 18 months and since Linda and I have never
been
and would love to visit we'll be dropping in on Andrea and her dogs.

Ok, tomorrow I have the big teacher test we have to take here called
the
CBest Test. Wish me luck. Does anybody know how to do long division?
I've forgotten.

And tissue...don't forget the tissues. That graduation is pretty
emotional for the parental units.

  Hey folks

We could use some guidance here. Next week we're travelling to Chicago to watch my son graduate from basic training and since the only time I have visited that city was when I was going somewhere else I'm looking for a few suggestions that Linda, Jason and I would enjoy visiting. I'm
sure there isn't much in the garden line this time of year but that
wouldn't make Linda and Jason overly happy anyway. So, for you folks
that know the windy city and can make some restaurant suggestions that
would be great.

Thanks guys
