RE: what kind of mulch???
I was watching some TV garden show where they used shredded rubber
mulch. They were congratulating themselves because of the recycling
aspects but I just couldn't fathom why you'd want to put rubber into
your soil. I don't know how gardening works there but at my house, bits
of mulch sink into the soil as I dig or gets raked into the lawn, or
just moves around. Sounded like a seriously bad idea to me.
Or there's the colored glass mulch I saw in a magazine, but I think you
were supposed to put landscape fabric down first.

Yes- really I just don't want to use anything that is bad for my soil
(those weird colored wood chips just freak me out- who wants dye in
their garden!)
