Re: OT: cell phones

I have been reading this subject with interest. I didn't want to get a computer and do e-mail when I was first introduced to it some 20 years ago, but gave in. Now I try, as Jesse is saying, to stay on top of the newest techno product. I didn't want to try texting and now most of my appointments are made either on my cell, or text, or by e-mail. We don't even have a land line at the beauty shop I work at. I keep having to redo my list of 'I am never going to do that'. I am thinking the same about my land line... we don't use it very often at all and it is such a huge expense. I just hate to think I don't have a home phone. I would bet that most kids starting out don't even think of having a home phone.

My husband and I are getting ready to do the same thing. We will no longer have a "land line" because there is no sense in having it when we carry our 
cell phones with us everywhere, and the added expense in this economy just
doesn't make any sense.  And things like the "Kindel" on Amazon.com will
become more common. It's basically an electronic book. You order the book, 
it's sent to your Kindel and you read it on this device.  The world is
beginning to go paperless and more electronic.  I don't buy albums
anymore...I just order the album on i-Tunes and download it to my i-Pod.
The next thing will be an increase in vision problems at a younger age
because people stare at computer monitors all the time.  I try to keep up
with modern technology so it doesn't zoom past me and leave me helpless. My 
parents can't function well in this techno world of ours.

daughter and son-in-law and their cousins and friends use them as their
main phones. Many don't even have land lines. I feel the same way about 
newspapers...I love them but many studies that I have read say that most
will be gone in the next 10-15 years.
