You're a bit ahead of us, Zem, but we're not far behind. I have daffodils up several inches. My quince has large pink buds just a few days from opening. This is the first year in the 40 that we have lived here that our pond has not frozen totally enough for skating, and today it is almost totally free of ice. Hellebores are up several inches. Last winter we had a heavy snow cover from early December until March, and my perennial bed came through beautifully, even the things that were marginally hardy, even though we had extreme cold for a good part of the winter. This year we have no snow cover - the ground is not even frozen. There have been a couple of cold spells - down into the single digits for one or two nights - but bounced right back up. Crazy! I'm sure many things will suffer. I've tried to cover my beds with leaves and cut Christmas tree branches, but I'm sure that has not been enough protection from the wide temperature swings. Oh well, at least we haven't had a big plowing bill - yet. Bridal wreath spirea and forsythia are in full array. One freeze and I could have a sad spring. In the meanwhile it's at least 70 and sunny today.
