Oops - I sometimes forget that nautical vocabulary thing!  A beam reach is
when a sailboat is moving forward powered by wind which strikes the boat on
the back quarter (either side).  It is the most comfortable sailing for the
people (smoother)  and the boat (less stress).  "Fair" winds are winds
blowing steadily in the direction the boater wants to go, and not too
strongly (10 to 15 mph).

Like many things in life, fair winds and beam reaches don't occur
simultaneously too often, and don't last too long!   The Jim Beam is likely
always close to hand :8^)
