pruning caryopteris shrubs

Ok all, I know I'm supposed to prune my caryopteris shrubs down to
pretty close to the ground. Do I do it when I prune my roses, or a
little later on when I cut back the Russian sage, lavender and
artemisias? Andrea? Anyone?
