There's only a few clumping bamboos that are hardy to Zone 5; you would most
likely be growing other ones, Noreen. Perhaps the ones that will grow here
originate where there isn't such a wide range of temperatures. We range
from -25 on up to say 105 in the extreme, more generally -10 to 95. Maybe
they tolerate -10 to 80 or something like that.
