Hake, which indeed rhymes with rake, are huge fish with that bland Mrs. Paul's flavor. Used to watch the guys at Baltimore's Lexington Market cut hake into those measured oblong portions that are dipped and batter fried and called "fish 'n' chips." Edible as long as there is a quantity of malt vinegar on hand.
The joke about carp [koi] is than you broil them on a cedar shingle. When done, you throw the carp away and eat the shingle.

Not familiar with the joke, but recently tried hake - does that rhyme with
rake?

Koi are carp. Know the joke about cooking carp on a shingle? They taste
like hake with zillions of small bones.

koiFrom: Donna <justme@prairieinet.net> I agree, koi ponds are much more work and less attractive. My 2"grew to be 4ft in 5 years and multiplied worse than rabbits. I wishmypond was not so deep.---------- 4'! Lordy, Donna, that's huge. Like a mini whale. What do you do with a 4' fish in a pond?
