I grow Clematis fremontii (Fremont's leather flower) which is a native bush clematis endemic to Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska. Has cute, downfacing, tulip shaped, blue tinged flowers. It is not an heracleifolia, it does flop. No scent that I can detect -- beware blister beetles.

There are 7, but only 4 in cultivation:
C. heracleifolia, C. tubulosa, C. pilisandra, and C. stans. There is a C.
stans var. lavellei that has "pervasively gardenia-scented blooms".
