I'm sure I'll get through it but...Now it says "Zone Alarm Security Alert. The firewall has blocked Internet access to your computer (FTP) from 85.17.40.189 (TCP Port 44096) (TP Flags: S).
How am I supposed to make sense of that? And it's not an option. It's just blocked. I wonder if it's something I might have wanted. This time Help was decent - "ZoneAlarm prevented a remote computer from connecting to port 21 on your computer. This connection attempt was probably a port scan trying to find unprotected FTP (File Transfer Protocol) servers."
since you say "> well what ever comes up without an option to allow, check that box not to inform you"
I guess I'll do that. Kitty neIN, Zone 5----- Original Message ----- From: "Donna" <gossiper@sbcglobal.net>

well what ever comes up without an option to allow, check that box not to inform you... that will cut about half out.If you are not trying to start something new- like the first time you print etc, or anything to do with the site you are currently trying to download, your AV software updates, I would not let thru. You can always go into the log if something doesn't work right at that moment and change it. Donna Kitty <kmrsy@comcast.net> wrote:The difficult thing about the boxes is that sometimes I don't recognize theitem so I don't know what to allow or deny. Once you get it set, they rarely show up. what I like about it - you can check the logs when something isn't working and switch it trusted. You can also set the programs to ask, allow, or red x it and never be bothered with it again. Well actually some things I red X so they can't run in the background but when I want to use them it is an easy switch. Donna Kitty wrote: Well, I've so far installed Zone Alarm and AVG. AVG asked if I wanted to upgrade the virus defs, but didn't allow me to answer "yes". Instead I had to click either folder or internet. ??? I tried the help info, but that didn't make it much clearer, so I picked folder. So then it spent almost 2 hrs scanning my computer and found one virus which it fixed. THEN it tells me I still have old defs, so folder meant "no" I guess. So this time I picked "intenet" and now I'm downloading the upgrade and willhave to give it over to 2 more hours to rescan everything. Who writes thisstuff? So it looks like downloading Search & Destroy and Adaware are going to have to wait awhile. I have completely deleted MacAfee and am totally vulnerable. I would like to try the free versions of the suggested items first. I have found: AVG virus protection AVG spyware protection Adaware adware protection Search & Destroy by Spybot However, I don't think any one mentioned Firewall protection. I need that don't I? I googled it and found some free products, but nothing I recognize. Has anyone heard of or used Comodo Zone Alarm Sunbelt Kerio Outpost or something else you'd suggest? There, you have my 2 cents worth. Judy Browning wrote:Tech support at my ISP recommends AVG for virus/spam, AdAware & Spybot Search & Destroy. These are all freeware.
