I agree. We want way too much and want it NOW; everything just right; no
inconvenience; no accidents (someone or something has to be blamed). I'm
getting old and lived in the South when there was no AC; taught in the
heat with no AC; dealt with storms that put electricity out for 4-5
days; had my accidents for which I was either responsible or they just
happened. I'm tired of all this. Life is life and things happen,
including nature with conditions of all sorts and accidents. Live it.



Yes, we howl about the schools but someone needs to remind people
clearly and often that our students are in global competition. Students
in other countries have longer days, often attend on Saturday morning
and have longer school years. Hello, are we going to give up even more
time due to inconvenience.

I was surprised at the amount of vitriol against the county and state for 
their supposed lack of preparation. This was a 10 year event. Snow happens. 
People should be prepared. And businesses shouldn't expect their employees 
to come in the moment that the snow stops. Not in an area without snow 
removal equipment. 

To be fair, the media here didn't do much about storm prep. It did mention 
people going out to buy milk, bread and toilet paper, but that was mostly 
making fun of those that do. There was nothing much about making sure that 
there 
was water and food for each person, matches, flashlights, batteries, can 
opener, a battery operated radio, etc. the normal storm prep, and nothing 
about considering blankets or an alternate means of heat like a kerosene or 
propane heater. They make a big to-do about hurricane season, but snow and 
cold can be more deadly. 

Some schools here proposed using Monday (MLK day)as one of the make-up days.

You wouldn't believe the howling that it was "racist", even though several 
of those systems also proposed eliminating the President's Day holiday. A 
couple of school systems are eliminating the winter recess, but in our 
county and a couple of others, the parents are howling that they already had

reservations for ski trips and such. I suppose that if the state doesn't 
give a waiver, most of them will be going to school for an extra week at the

end of the school year. And that's a budget buster because of the air 
conditioning costs, and is hard on the students traveling on buses without 
air conditioning when it's in the 90's.
