I wonder if you were allergic to the gloves, or whether the gloves held the
chemical or irritant next to your skin for a long period of time.
When I took pesticide safety training, they were very careful to tell us
that some gloves can make things worse because the chemical would go right
through them and then be in very close contact with moist (read that
softening and more susceptible) skin. They said to make sure that they type
of glove you used was matched to the carrier in the chemical.
