When I planted the Jamaican cherry earlier this year, I staked it with a pointed 2X2. I just now took the stake out. The part that had been in the ground had been turned into a condominium for termites. When I hit it on the ground, hundreds of termite larvae fell out.
And an enterprising anole jumped from a nearby plant into the middle of them and began gobbling them up.
