Gosh, Daryl, I hadn't thought about Dr.Tichenor's in years. I guess that if all failed one could just drink some of it as it's over 100 proof. We used to get drunk as coots on that mixed with Coca Cola when I was about 13. We were also into smoking Picayune cigarettes under the train trestle about the same time. Ah, the joys of growing up in the rural south!

Pam,
I know a gal in New Orleans that does the gardens for many of the places in
the quarter, in addition to raising bunches of ferns. She swears by a
mixture of Dr. Tichenor's Mouthwash and water for rag dipping and face
wiping. http://www.drtichenor.com It also contains a good bit of
peppermint.
The OJ tip is a good one. If folks can't handle that amount of sugar at
once, cutting it 60-40 with water or sparkling water helps hydrate while
still giving a good boost of potassium. That was one of my Dad's standbys on
hot days. Some mineral waters have a good bit of Potassium, too, if you read
the labels.
It was so hot here yesterday, that despite drinking copious amounts of water
all day, I finished off a whole pint from my bedside bottle of water. If I
hadn't been so tired, I would have gotten up for more.
Ah, summer. Gotta love it!
The well is fixed ! Yippeee! (Going back out to water)

In honor of our first 100 degree day of the year, I thought I'd share this. Get a rag or small dish towel and wet it, then wring out slightly. Get some peppermint oil and drop about 4 drops along the length of it. Wet it slightly again and knead for a few moments to work the oil throughout the rag. Wear this around your neck while working in the yard and you'll feel cooler. Also 5 or 6 drops in your bath is most cooling and refreshing. For those of you prone to leg & foot cramps, drink a big glass of orange juice before going out in the yard, morning and afternoon. 8 to 12 oz. The potassium prevents the cramps and all the water you are drinking flushes that out. So it needs to be replenished. Or eat a banana if you don't like juice. It makes a difference. Hope that helps y'all not so accustomed to this type of heat.--------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE GARDENCHAT
